The Hungarian premiere of The Eichmann Show will take place on Wednesday 26 August 2015 at Uránia National Film Theatre and will be followed by a theatrical release in art-house cinemas in Budapest and across Hungary.
Global rights management company Freeway Entertainment is partnering with European distributor Pannonia Entertainment to release its first title as a distributor for the Hungarian territory, Paul Andrew Williams’s The Eichmann Show.
Starring Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit, Fargo), Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace, Lantana), Rebecca Front (The Thick Of It) Andy Nyman (Peaky Blinders, Death At A Funeral) and Nicholas Woodeson (The Honourable Woman, Skyfall), The Eichmann Show follows the televising of the trial of Adolf Eichmann - one of the key architects of the Holocaust. Broadcast in 37 countries, the trial was the first time the horror of the death camps had been heard live directly from its victims. Described as the ‘trial of the century’, it became the world’s first ever global TV event, and this film tells the extraordinary story of the production team that overcame enormous obstacles to capture the testimony of one of the war’s most notorious Nazis.
Directed by Paul Andrew Williams (BAFTA nominated for the BBC’s Murdered by My Boyfriend, Song for Marion, Cherry Tree Lane, London to Brighton) and written by Simon Block (The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall), The Eichmann Show is produced by Laurence Bowen (Suburban Shootout) for Feelgood Fiction Ltd and Ken Marshall (Song For Marion) for Steel Mill Pictures, the BBC and Vistaar Entertainment. The film is distributed in Hungary by Pannonia Entertainment in association with Freeway Entertainment.
Cecile Huberts, Freeway Entertainment Partner said: “The Eichmann Show tells an incredibly important story that is well told and well made. We are proud to be able to bring this outstanding film to cinema screens in Hungary. Aside from informing audiences across the country about this momentous moment in history, its distribution will also complement the work of Budapest’s Holocaust Memorial Centre and University of Jewish Studies.
“This release also marks the beginning of a brand new partnership between Freeway Entertainment and our experienced associates at Pannonia Entertainment and we look forward to working together to distribute more films in the future.”
Klaudia Elsässer, Founder and Managing Director of Pannonia Entertainment, said: “We are proud to embark upon this new distribution partnership with Freeway Entertainment for the Hungarian release of our first title together, The Eichmann Show; an outstanding, intelligent film that serves as a timeless reminder of the importance of exposing discrimination and seeking justice. We look forward to working with our partners at Freeway on further titles in future.”
Set in Jerusalem, 1961, ground-breaking TV producer Milton Fruchtman (Martin Freeman) hires director Leo Hurwitz (Anthony LaPaglia) to film the trial of Adolf Eichmann - one of the key architects of the Holocaust. A critically-acclaimed filmmaker who had pioneered multi-camera studio broadcasting, Hurwitz had been blacklisted under McCarthy for more than a decade. Arriving in Jerusalem, Hurwitz has a momentous job on his hands: together he and Milton must quickly train up an inexperienced camera team and persuade the judges to change their minds and let them film the trial. Working under intense pressure, the team finally wins permission to film by rebuilding the courtroom with specially concealed cameras.
Over the next four months, the trial highlights - hastily cut together at the end of each day and couriered around the world - would have a profound global effect. Day after day, Holocaust survivors shared their shocking testimony with a global audience, and day after day Adolf Eichmann stunned the world with his apparent lack of contrition. The Eichmann Show features extensive archive footage from the 1961 trial.
